About the Program

The recent series of professional development workshops and capacity building trainings held for journalists in Satkhira, Bagerhat and Khulna have well served their purpose, and participants of the events are highly satisfied with the knowledge and training they have acquired. These trainings have been held in Jessore, Bagerhat , Khulna  and Satkhira on 14th February, 19th February ,22nd February and 28th February  2011 respectively, with each one briefing participants about a diverse range of topics such as role and actions of media in promoting and protecting human rights, journalism ethics, usefulness and components of advocacy in protecting human rights to name a few.

A special emphasis was given on use of ICT and how it can be used as an effective advocacy tool, and most participants unanimously agreed that this unique feature of the trainings played a significant role in developing their skills. Finally, the capacity building trainings for the members of the National Network of Concerned Journalists (NNCJ) formed under the THR programme served as a platform that not established a strong network among existing participants, but also generated useful information about future actions and activities that may be implemented by the NNCJ members in the future.

These events received a significant amount of media coverage and generated much interest among all media professionals and community members of the targeted districts.

The two years long “Transparency for Human Rights in Bangladesh” programme in Bangladesh has been implemented by Relief International with funding support from the  European Commission.
