A roundtable discussion session on Human Rights was held in Chitalmari Upazilla of Bagerhat district on 18^th March 2011, where local government officials, civil society leaders, educators, media professionals and community members discussed various issues pertaining to Human Rights and how effective reporting practices can promote respect for human rights. The chief guest of the event was the Upazilla Nirbahi Officer Wahiduzzaman Munshi who addressed the issue and urged all stakeholders to come forward to promote human rights.

Other speakers at the discussion session were Mohammad Babul Miah, Principal, Bangabandhu Mohila College, Swapan Kumar Rai, Principal, Kalidas Boral Memorial College, and Mohammad Mohsin Reza Principal , Sher e Bangla College. Special Correspondent Selim Jahangir and President of Chitalmari Press Club Munshi Delwar Hossain also attended the event.

This roundtable was part of the series of activities planned under the programme “Transparency for Human Rights in Bangladesh”, which is implemented by Relief International with financial support from European Commission. In total the event had 25 participants including advocate of Bagerhat judge court and media professionals from Boishakhi TV, NTV and other prominent media organizations. The discussion also covered topics like principles of reporting, role of media in promotion of human rights, effective reporting techniques , to name a few.
